COVID-19 Protection Framework
As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, New Zealand has adjusted the COVID-19 Protection Framework, also known as the traffic light system.
The new, highly simplified traffic light settings are as follows.
RED
- Indoor capacity limits for gatherings and events with My Vaccine Pass increase to 200.
- There will be no capacity limits for outdoor activities with My Vaccine Pass.
- Face masks are no longer required at outdoor settings.
- No requirement to scan in or for a business to display a QR code or keep records.
ORANGE
- No capacity limits for indoor and outdoor gatherings and events, but face masks still required in many indoor settings
- No requirement to scan in or for a business to display a QR code or keep records.
GREEN
- No requirements, but good health habits should still be maintained to help look after those who are more vulnerable to COVID-19

All of New Zealand remains at the RED setting within the COVID-19 Protection Framework.
